His queen, fearing for her baby Kahili’s life, flees into the wilderness. As dawn breaks, she places Kahili on a raft with the royal emblem and sends him down the river, praying for his safety.

The river delivers him to the sea, where mermaids, led by the wise Naima, discover the infant. They decide to raise him in their magical oceanic realm.
